Schenley Plaza was the first venue and initial funder in the Sundae Project. The Plaza is located in the Oakland neighborhood of
Pittsburgh.
Oakland is a neighborhood of Pittsburgh that is a thriving commercial and residential area. In fact, Oakland is Pennsylvania's third largest "Downtown". Only Center City, Philadelphia and Downtown Pittsburgh can claim more commerce and activity than Oakland. Oakland is surrounded by the Pittsburgh neighborhoods of Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Greenfield, Bloomfield, Hill district and Bluff. Oakland is the cultural, medical, educational, spiritual and technological center of Pittsburgh, boasting many world-renowned institutions and attractions. Moreover, it is the entrance to the charm and natural beauties of expansive Schenley Park.
The creative agency Dream Store was asked to develop a creative event solution for the
Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. Its solution was designed to introduce, entertain and leave a lasting impression on event-goers with music and design.
Attendance for the first Sundae was counted at 854 and the second was 1243 (attendance count by the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy) and has grown substantially each time. Vendors were a wide array of local artists, artisans, general flea marketers, local fashion boutiques and several farmers markets.
Since then Sundae has moved and done other events in
Buffalo, NY and
Syracuse, NY. It is looking to further develope into a non-profit to assist vendors accross the country.
